Faith-based

Here's this week's "Opening the Bible" blog entry for i.ucc

This week's Bible reading from Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16 praises the faith of Abraham and Sarah. It describes faith as "assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." And I've heard faith also described as "believing without seeing." But sometimes I have doubts that seem bigger than what I believe.

I think that doubt and faith can exist together -- and I know others would disagree. But here's what I believe about faith:
  • Faith in God gives us permission not to know it for sure – but to trust that God is guiding and leading us to continue to show love.
  • Faith in God gives us permission to seek God, make mistakes, fail miserably, and continue seeking God.
  • Faith in God gives us permission to take a step forward – not knowing what the result will be, but trusting that God will continue to guide us and abide with us.
  • Faith in God lets us disagree with one another and still love and serve God together.
What do you think?
