This week's Bible study blog post for i.ucc.org (Unstoppable) provides a better title to Sunday's sermon at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Somonauk. If you look closely you can find the title in the sermon, but things just went a different direction than I had thought they would. I think there might be a little 'shoutin'' in this one, too!

Unstoppable
Here's this week's Bible study blog entry for i.ucc.org:
What images come to mind when you think of something unstoppable?
God’s gift of repentance and forgiveness is unstoppable. God’s call that all would love God and love all is unstoppable. God’s desire that all would be saved is unstoppable.
God’s mission is unstoppable.
Thoughts?
What images come to mind when you think of something unstoppable?
- A football player rushing the quarterback?
- A speeding locomotive?
- Gossip?
- An urban legend?
- Political bickering and partisan posturing?
- The football player can be stopped by a block.
- A speeding locomotive can be stopped with brakes.
- Gossip can be stopped when people refuse to spread it.
- An urban legend can be stopped in a similar manner.
- Political bickering and partisan posturing may seem unstoppable, but reason and conversation can even stop that.
God’s gift of repentance and forgiveness is unstoppable. God’s call that all would love God and love all is unstoppable. God’s desire that all would be saved is unstoppable.
- Folks can try to stop it outright.
- Folks can get it completely wrong
- Folks can argue about it
- Folks can deny it.
God’s mission is unstoppable.

Bubbling
Here's the newest "Opening the Bible" blog entry I posted at i.ucc

When I see a great film, experience a great meal, enjoy a moving worship service (Joy Dawned Again!) or even after I’ve read a good book, I feel like telling someone else. I heartily gush about what it is I found so appealing about whatever it is that I encountered.
I don’t ever feel like I’m not permitted to say something about what I believe. I also never feel like I’m forbidden from sharing my opinion about any subject.
But I’ve never experienced a situation where others have the right to think for me.
I wonder, if I was faced with that reality, if I’d be able to bubble about Jesus’ love and God’s extravagant welcome for everyone.
In this week’s reading from Acts 5:27-32, the apostles stood before the high priest and flat-out refused to submit to their authority. They had to follow God instead of the priests.
What would you do?
