We weren't sure we would get this year's edition done before Christmas, but here it is! A little bit of info, a little bit of comedy, lots of pictures and a Christmas greeting from the Moore family in Warrenville.
The 2009 Moore Messenger is here!

Merry Christmas from the Moore Family
Sure - it's still the 23rd. But it's pretty late to be sending out Christmas cards . . . unless you have one that arrives immediately after being sent!

Joe
My father-in-law for more than 21 years, and a man who welcomed a teenage kid into the family 4 years earlier, died peacefully last night after a 29 month journey with bile duct cancer. I'm better for having known this man and have proudly called him "Dad" since just before Cassie and I were married. The family has kept an extensive blog of Joe's journey over the past two and a half years. Please keep the whole Coburn family (and me, too!) in your prayers at this difficult time. Here are the arrangement details:
Visitation: Friday from 4-9 pm
Funeral: Saturday at 10 A.M.
Both will be held at Anderson Memorial Chapel, 606 Townhall Drive, Romeoville, 60446.
A couple of years ago we uploaded a video of this moving, true story that Joe used to tell the family at Christmas.

Paradise visit
Tomorrow morning, (Well, pretty much in the middle of the night) the Moore family heads to Bonaire for a week of SCUBA diving, snorkeling, swimming and basking in the ocean breezes and 80-degree temperatures. (For most of the world -- that would mean 28-degree temperatures. In the U.S. we can't seem to shake Fahrenheit!) We went as a family back in 2003 and are going again (actually a year early) to spend time with my mother and father-in-law. My father-in-law, Joe, has cholangiocarcinoma. He's living life to the fullest with cancer and we're glad to all be able to be on vacation with MaryAnne and Joe this year.
It's going to be a great week. I'll post a few times -- if for not other reason than to show come cool underwater photography!
(Here are some photos from the last time Cassie and I were in Bonaire together in 2005.)

O Holy Night
I know that it's a little past Christmas.
My father-in-law and brother-in-law sang "O Holy Night" at Carillon Community Christian Church's Christmas eve service. (They started practicing with Cassie and my sister-in-law Karen as a quartet, but decided a duet worked better.) Cassie was behind the camera when Joe and Kevin sang the song at the Coburn home for this video.

School's back in session
I don't know if that means I'll blog more -- since I have a few more minutes of breathing time in the day, but it is one of those times where I think about getting older
My 3rd grader rode his bike to school for the first time today
I didn't walk to school to supervise.

I'm
- a little nervous
- a little thrilled
- a little aged
- and a lot . . . ponderous about milestones in life
