50 years

We just celebrated my parent's 50-year anniversary -- and this weekend we celebrate 50 years of the United Church of Christ. {Our General Synod (all-denomination gathering we have every two years) in Hartford, Connecticut, begins on Friday. I'll be blogging about my experience there later this week.} Here's what I wrote as this week's "opening the Bible" blog entry for i.ucc

I'm part of the UCC and I take the Bible seriously. I believe God has so much to show us through the Bible and I love to dig deeper into it to understand things better and to learn things I had never seen before. This week, however, in honor of the United Church of Christ's 50-year anniversary, I'm going to do something completely different . . .

50 years
Word and music by Kirk Moore

Fifty years - Fifty years
We’re celebrating Fifty years
Fifty years - Fifty years
And there is time for many more

600 is the number measured out in months
2600 counting weeks
18250 give or take a few days
That’s a long time but there is more I can say

Because it’s Fifty years - Fifty years
We’re celebrating Fifty years
Fifty years - Fifty years
And there is time for many more

438,000 hours
26 million minutes sounds nice
50 years and counting- That’s been how long
We've been The United Church of Christ!

Because it’s Fifty years - Fifty years
We’re celebrating Fifty years
Fifty years - Fifty years
And there is time for many more

In fifty years we've had our ups and downs
In fifty years we've even angered some
But united and uniting -- it's been our call
To share God's love and welcome everyone

Oh yes it's Fifty years - Fifty years
We’re celebrating Fifty years
Fifty years - Fifty years
And there is time for many
We're here to welcome any
And there is time for many more!

You can see the "live" version of this bouncy, fun song on youtube ("live" meaning I stood in front of a video camera and played the song.)

The studio version of the song is now available from Sony Connect , Rhapsody Emusic and iTunes. This link let's you hear a sample right now!

Have fun in Connecticut. I've never been there nor a conference.:-) See Buddy isn't the only blogger in the family!
