Florida! 2009 - 3

We leave today. But not without some great memories from the last days of 2009.

Universal Studios:
Matthew, Andrew and I ran around both of Universal's Florida parks all day (one of the most crowded of the year!), meeting up a few times with my parents while Cassie and Marianne took in all things Disney at Disney's Hollywood Studios (on a day where the Magic Kingdom turned away guests because they were at capacity!) At Universal we rode the new Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket Coaster and the new Simpsons ride (two of my favorites) as well as seeing several shows and eating at Mel's Drive in (a family tradition.) And, of course, we rode the Incredible Hulk Coaster -- my favorite coaster!

Sea World:
Another crowded day! We saw Shamu's show as well as the Dolphin show, got to see a 1 day old dolphin pup and rode Manta -- another new favorite coaster. All 7 Moores were at the park all day -- meeting up for shows and meals and also wandering around in smaller groups for different shows and rides.

Venice Beach:
We love heading to Sharky's on the Pier for picnicking, swimming, laying out, and looking for shark's teeth. This year I found a pretty large and very cool one. Marianne would love to make a pendant for a necklace out of it. We found the sandbar and walked out about 200 feet from the shore. Someone caught a 4-5 foot Black-tipped reef shark (not an aggressive type) about 300 feet off the shore, too!

Roaring 20's Pizza and Pipes:
This is a great, somewhat hidden treasure in Florida. Just off I 75 in Ellenton, Florida there's a Pizza place with regular entertainment on the Mighty Wurlitzer organ. This instrument plays piano, drums, bells, horns, marimba, and about 20 other instruments as the organist takes requests and plays wonderfully. I requested In a Gadda Da Vida, but he didn't play it. :(

Today we're picking a few more oranges and then heading home. New Year's Eve in a roadside motel! Maybe we'll find out with a pool.
