Fishers, Indiana

A couple of friends of mine are starting a new United Church of Christ congregation in Fishers, Indiana. Nicole and Todd are blogging about this new mission project that they call Fishers New Church.

Here are a few things they're saying so far:

Our vision for Fishers New Church is rooted in the founding vision of the United Church of Christ, which 50 years ago took as its motto the prayer of Jesus "That they may all be one" (John 17:21). We are using three key words to express this vision:

  • Inclusivity
  • Partnership
  • Welcome
We are jumping into this work head first–although not without some trepidation. We are doing our best simply to be of use to our new community, and we trust that God will bless our work–even when it means doing things we’ve never done before. We are here to stand alongside the people of our community and "pass the bags along"–to "move in the common rhythm" while we are still learning what that rhythm is.

Fishers is a rapidly growing and dynamically changing community. People relocate to Fishers from across the country and look for ways to connect in their new surroundings. They seek an authentic Christian witness of God’s love in the world.

Anyone near Fishers ready for church?
