President Bush -- you've done nothing

Today in vetoing the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005, Mr. President. You've really done nothing.

  • Nothing to protect the unborn -- as the embryos covered under the act would and still will be discarded. (Despite you being surrounded by families who have adopted frozen embryos.)
  • Nothing to protect families -- as the embryos covered under the act must have been donated by in vitro fertilization clinics with written, informed consent of those being being treated.
  • Nothing to stop financial gain by those donating, as the embryos covered under the act must not have been donated by patients induced to do so by financial or other incentives.
  • Nothing to stop medical research -- as you've only continued to block federal funding from being spent on the research.

Well, maybe you've alienated another large group of voters.
