Salt

In this week's Bible reading from Matthew 5:13-20, Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth!”

So . . .

You’re the one who is bloating the earth, raising the earth’s blood pressure, putting the earth at a greater risk of stroke or cardiovascular disease, adding to cardiac enlargement risk, possibly adding to the earth’s problems with ulcers, heartburn, osteoporosis, and stomach cancer?  We need less of you in our lives!

Or maybe you're the one that keeps road safer, yet is in short supply in midwestern communities after multiple snowstorms?

Yes.  Those are exactly what Jesus meant. (not)  Perhaps, just perhaps, Jesus meant that we are the ones who strengthen the earth’s flavor, preserve’s the earth’s food, seal the earth’s covenants, and even signify wisdom.

More salt, please.
