Breathe for a second

This week’s Bible  reading from 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5, 13-17 was written to folks who were getting ready for the imminent return of Jesus.

“Hold on there.  Breathe for a second.  Don’t get sucked into any kind of “it’s happening now!” thinking.  If anyone claims to be God’s main spokesmodel, steer clear.  Instead, remember that God has not forgotten you and will not forget you.  Keep praying, keep worshipping, and keep following those two rules.  (You know, love God and love everyone.)  God will give you comfort and strength to keep practicing your faith in all you do and say.”

Sure it’s not exactly what is in the reading, but it’s got the same flavor.  It was good advice when it was written.  I’d say it’s still good advice today.

What do you think?
